As technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, the role teachers play in students’ learning process has experienced a noticeable and far-reaching transformation. Under this circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether they impose much less influence on students in contemporary society than those in the past. For my part, I side with advocates based on following sound reasons.

For one thing, through the Internet, students in this day and age can gain swift and convenient access to the latest information and advanced knowledge without any geographical barrier and financial restraint, which means they are equipped with much more diversified channels and platforms to have a good grasp of various solutions to many thorny problems besides teachers in the classroom.

It is universally acknowledged that in the past teachers were the only sources of knowledge apart from textbooks so that students had no alternative but to resort to their teachers when they were confronted with hardships and setbacks on their academic road. In stark comparison, students in today’s classroom rely less on their teachers on the grounds that numerous studying materials and courses can be readily available in the cyber world, which cannot imagined by previous students.
